British sugar

I'd gone to Birmingham to meet with some fellow explorers and visit the Central TV studios. Sadly our point of access was inconvieniently blocked by workmen so another plan was needed. We walked back to the cars via the Jewelry Quarter before rethinking our days activities. Another quick discussion and it was agreed that the British Sugar refinery in Kidderminster was our best bet.

To be frank I am not too sure where to start, this was my first Industrial site and the size of the place alone left me dumbstruck. Demolition was well under way and very few buildings were intact, littered around us were huge pieces of machinery which despite being cut up ready for transportation dwarfed us and mountainous piles of rubble. The two main silos were still standing but to have climbed them would have been so time consuming we'd not have seen anything else. We visited a large building which was fairly intact, scrambled in and out of some impressive pipework, up on a gantry I found a ladder heading to the roof and set off in an upward direction. Sadly the ladder led nowhere. Later, thanks to some inventive use of dexion by Dr Zoidberg we gained access to a 1st floor control room which proved to be exceptionally photogenic.

Next stop was a lime kiln!! I'm not too sure what part lime plays in the production of suger but judging by the size of the place, quite a big part! Needless to say everything in and around the unit was covered in lime. The highlight of the kiln was it's chimney or rather the chimneys staircase. The journey up was very civilised and the view from the top pretty impressive. I still want to climb those silos though!
